How to Elevate Your Online Presence

Having a solid digital presence has been important for years, but these days it’s more important than ever! The Internet is the first place that people turn to when they’re looking for anything, and if you don’t exist online… well, it’s going to be difficult to reach potential clients.

There are two parts to a successful online presence — being easy to find, and being worth finding.

Make your site easy to find

Can you be found through search engines? Make sure you’re using simple SEO strategies that can move you up the ranks, like using keywords in your content and adding alternate text to images.

Show up consistently on social media, on your blog, and in your email communications. If you promise to send a newsletter every Tuesday, do it! The more consistently you show up in front of your audience—no matter what that looks like for you—the more likely they are to think of you when they need help or advice. That goes for your visuals too—make sure you’re using a consistent color palette and visual style across all your social media profiles, ads, website, and email communications.

If you have any stale social media profiles, don’t hesitate to delete them. It’s better to not exist at all on a platform than to have an outdated profile.

Set up your Google business page… and while you’re at it, make sure that your email address is professionally branded. (ie: name@company.com)

Make your site worth finding

Once your audience finds you, make sure your site is well, worth taking out to lunch. Run through this checklist to make sure your site represents you well:

  • Is your brand message clear within the first 5 seconds of landing on your site? (We should be able to tell very quickly what you do, for whom, and how they can purchase from you)

  • Is your site design clear and current? Good design is more accessible than it has ever been before, and humans are aesthetically driven. You have seconds to make a good first impression, and polished branding will go a long way in establishing trust with your audience.

  • Have you refreshed your about page recently? This is one of the first places customers look to learn about your brand story and it’s often overlooked!

  • Do you have Terms of Service, and Privacy, Shipping, and Refund policies? CYA friends and let customers know what to expect.

These are all important things when it comes to improving your online presence! How did you stack up?
